“If I were a rich man, ya ha deedle deedle, bubba bubba deedle deedle dum”.

Our school has nurtured a drama tradition for more than 25 years now. Alternating musicals and stage performances are performed by students from all grade levels and education streams.

Once again, about 80 students and many teachers have worked with great enthusiasm on this year’s performance: Fiddler on the Roof. Directed by Cees van Damme, the music is provided by the school orchestra led by Mark van der Laaken and Gerwin van der Werf.

Tevje, the milkman of the village of Anatevka, tries desperately to stick to the Jewish traditions. Yet times are changing. His daughters no longer allow themselves to be simply married off. After a Russian pogrom on the village, Tevje also opts for an uncertain future in faraway America. He must leave his three eldest daughters behind in war-torn Europe.

Although Fiddler on the Roof was first performed on Broadway in 1964, the play is now more meaningful than ever. Our Rijnlands adaptation therefore explicitly makes a connection to the current refugee problem in Europe. This makes this not only a very cool, but also a very important musical.
