Kees Tabbers

We remember our much-loved former colleague Kees Tabbers, who taught classical languages at our school from 1969 to 2011. After 42 dedicated years of service, Mr. Tabbers began his well-earned retirement in 2011. Unfortunately, that time proved far too short. After a short but intense illness, Kees Tabbers passed away on 9 June 2017. Generations of grammar school students have warm memories of his enthusiasm for classical antiquity and his broad cultural interest. Maaike van der Plas, a former student of Kees, wrote a beautiful piece on her old tutor in the Leids Dagblad, in which she recounted how Kees would take his students to the Museum of Antiquities during lesson hours, to concerts of classical music, and how he regularly lent out books from his deeply laden houseboat, if only to help keep it afloat. Our always smiling, beloved colleague Kees Tabbers reached the age of 73.
