Hans Hoekman

On 18 June 2014, at the age of 84, my dear friend and former colleague Chemical Engineer Hans Hoekman has passed on. Hans was a Chemistry teacher, tutor, and dean at our school from 1959 until 1970. He was a much-loved teacher to many of our students, even on a personal level. We visited the reunion in 2011, where we spoke to a number of students from the sixties. After his time at the Rijnlands he worked for various organisations on innovation in the education of Chemistry. For many years, he also coached students who represented our country at the Chemistry Olympics. Hans was a very warm and sensitive human being.

His obituary mentioned the following text by Chekhov:

If you hold me / At the end of my life, / Happiness will have lasted / Until the day I die.
