Welcome
to the alumni site of The Rijnlands Lyceum Oegstgeest.
Since 2006 our school now has its very own place in cyberspace where
former students of The Rijnlands Lyceum Oegstgeest can meet, intensify
or renew contacts or simply stay in touch with current developments
at the school; an alumni site for all those who think back warmly on
the years they spent at this school. "Rijnlanders", we call
them, not just for five or six years, but for the rest of their lives.
We are well past our 50th birthday: this means that
the oldest living Rijnlander must have reached retirement age by now;
it testifies to the rich history of our school and to the constant level
of quality education that has established our name firmly in the educational
world. That, of course, is in no small measure due to the fact that
we have offered international educational programmes successfully since
1983. Thanks to our International Baccalaureate "Rijnlanders"
have ended up in numerous far-away places, and particularly for them
this alumni site should prove to be an ideal tool for contact. If you
know anyone out there who is not yet aware of this site, please, spread
the word.
The actual building in Oegstgeest is, of course, not quite so old; still,
over the years we have constantly worked on improvements, finishing
off a major renovation just before the summer holiday of 2006. The building
and the amenities now fully live up to the requirements that modern
education demands of schools. I am also very proud to be able to say
that the latest renovation of the building was entirely the work of
a former student of the school, Mr. Dirk Jan Postel, architect for the
internationally renowned firm Kraaijvanger Urbis of Rotterdam.
As for myself, after 26 years with the school I was offered the headship
in august 2007, which I accepted with a great feeling of pride. Following
in the footsteps of headmasters Naeff, van Mierlo, Vaessen and Elkerbout
I see it as my duty to build on the quality this school continues to
offer to so many young people. In that respect, this site proves extremely
helpful. I want to thank one of our former students, Clyde Waal, for
putting so much time and effort into building this site. Thanks to his
efforts more than 1300 visits per month are paid to "ROStalgia";
it proves how valuable this site already is as a modern means of communication.
I hope this site may remain a valuable meeting point for many former
Rijnlanders for a long time to come yet.

Soul direct from Dublin!
The plot…….. A group of young people from a rundown neighbourhood in Dublin start a band - not just any band: a soul band! The music that gave black Americans from the ghetto hope could also bring some hope and spirit to the Irish. With no job, no future, completely wrapped up in junk food, with the likelihood of marrying the first guy to talk the talk (as long as he has a job!). Where children do the laundry and the neighbourhood resembles a run-down, deprived area.
We play Soul…. Soul from Dublin! Music delivers us from our mundane lives, soul is energy; pure and raw, soul is the rhythm of the street, and the voice of the people.
Forming the band, there is an ex-convict as a drummer, a saxophonist who considers himself rather cool, a nice but (work-shy) guitarist, an aggressive drummer, three attractive-looking female singers, and lead singer with the voice of an angel with the manners of a cheap ‘sleazebag’, all of whom are guided by a malevolent manager attempting to keep the band together.
Of course, don’t forget ‘Joey the Lips’ on trumpet…. With so many questions about him, has he really done the things be boasts about, has he experienced the fame he claims? And does he really know Wilson Pickett personally? And will Wilson Pickett really come to our concert?
THE COMMITMENTS. A sparkling musical full of ‘Soul from Dublin’. Based upon the renowned film of the same name, by Alan Parker.

It has taken a while but ROStalgia, the alumni site for former Rijnlands’ students is operational.
This site is intended for all graduates and should be filled by them. We do hope many of you will be active by placing news items and photographs (see the photo gallery). First and foremost, however, we hope that this site will help you re-establish contact with friends and ‘fellow-victims’ of former days.
The contents of this site will be determined by you. Any one who is logged in can contribute. So, register yourself immediately.
In the registration process, you determine what information you want to be visible on the site (e.g. phone number, city of residence) and what not. In the profile, tell as much as possible about yourself; be aware that it is always possible to amend information afterwards.
Please be aware that your registration will be confirmed by mail via the e-mail address that you have listed. YOU HAVE TO CONFIRM YOUR REGISTRATION BY RESPONDING TO THAT MAIL. Your account will then be activated manually by one of the administrators.
PLEASE NOTE that you can register for the Reunion as well (see top right). This is possible only after you are logged in on the Rostalgia site.
Do enjoy Rostalgia!!

The latest information about the reunion (e.g. an alternative entrance, parking, meeting place per decade) is to be found in the forum.
The Forum contains a list of (former) teachers who will attend the reunion as well (although we assume that a number will show up who have not registered!).
We urge you to register before Monday evening, 3rd April. In that case your name will be listed in the programme booklet. Be aware that you are most welcome without a prior registration (!), yet it makes it hard for us to estimate the number of participants.

Apart from the reunion the school has organised other activities for the quinquennium. One of these was the all-day party for students and staff on 15th March. The theme of the day was “Change”, and everyone dressed up in fashionable clothing of the fifties, sixties, seventies, eighties and nineties. In the morning, we assembled on the sports field for an aerial photo and formed the text “ROS 50” (you may remember having seen the comparable photo taken 25 years ago). The acronym ROS (synonym for horse, and therefore used as the school’s logo) means Rijnlandse Oegstgeester Scholengemeenschap (Rijnlands’ Oegstgeest School Community).

The annual drama production fits in with the school’s anniversary; Cees van Damme and his team have chosen to re-enact the most beautiful themes of the past ten years. The performance will take place on 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, and 7th April.
Most of the members of the old casts will participate on Thursday and Friday evening!
